American Standard Companies

Reliable and steadfast, a leader in the toilet industry

If you wanted a company name that would conjure an image of a preeminent toilet manufacturer for the world’s largest marketplace, you couldn’t do much better than calling your business “American Standard”. This corporation can trace its roots back to two companies: the American Radiator Company (founded in 1872 as a tin-ware shop) and the Standard Sanitary Manufacturing Company (founded in 1875). The two businesses merged in 1929 to form the American Radiator & Standard Sanitary Corporation, which was soon providing bath fixture products to half the homes in the U.S. and Europe. It shortened its name to “American-Standard” in 1948 and dropped the hyphen in 1968.

Today, the company offers a wide range of products for both the bathroom and the kitchen. In terms of toilets, American Standard has some of the widest selection of any company in the world. For example, featured recently on their website is the new “plunge free” Townsend Champion Right-Height Elongated Toilet, which claims to be engineered to virtually never clog. Several of American Standard toilets, including the Champion Elongated One-Piece Toilet, are also designed for easy installation.

In fact, each American Standard toilet comes with a list of easy-to-understand icons that represent its various features and advantages. Besides no-clogs and easy installers, you can find toilets that:

  • Are easier to keep clean.
  • Take less time to refill after flushing.
  • Come with an extended warranty.

The website also includes lots of handy pictures to show you the style and color of each toilet and how it will look against an actual bathroom background. The company also sells a range of bidets for those customers who have a disability or suffer from limited mobility.

The only problem with shopping at American Standard is that there may too much choice. The website lists more than 70 different models of toilets, and the average shopper might be a bit daunted trying to figure out which one speaks to him or her as an individual. The site does list a wide range of specs on each product, but still: you may have to speak to an expert to figure out whether the Town Square Right Height Elongated Toilet or the Ravenna Round Front Toilet is right for you and your family.
